Letter from the CEO: Scams on the Rise

Sept 19, 2022

Congrats! You just received an email claiming you’ve won a lottery (that you’ve never entered). Now all you need to do is to share your account information to claim your prize.

Does it sound too good to be true? That’s because it is!

Fraud scams are up 70% since 2020 and still on the rise. As your credit union, our top priority is your financial wellness, and that includes helping you stay safe from scammers. While the way each scam plays out can be vary, most follow a similar pattern. Scammers would try to get consumers to share personal and financial information or pay fees for a service or product that doesn’t exists.

Fortunately, there are easy ways to protect yourself from scams, including never share personal information to unknown parties, don’t open unsolicited emails, keep up to date on the latest scams, and use multi-factor authentication for your accounts. As a reminder, Forrit will never contact members through email, text messages or social media to obtain personal identifiable information.

Stay alert and stay safe!
